education and coached him in basketball at Isaac Middle School; he
stated: "He was super well-mannered and friendly, easy to get along
with. He was a gangly kid when I had him, but he went on to develop
himself in high school into one of his coach's favorite players." Nate
participated on MHS-JV-Basketball team his sophomore year and MHS
Varsity Basketball team during both his junior and senior class years;
wearing jersey #41, all 3 years. A longtime friend remembered:
Spc.Nathaniel Caldwell, the "tall black guy with a bad flat top" was the
kid who carried a gold-rimmed black briefcase all through junior high
school and Maryvale H.S. "Everybody knew Nate," he said. Caldwell's
lifelong dream was to play pro basketball but reality dictated that he
join the Army to better himself. Later, after Caldwell had enlisted, he
met his wife while on leave. They married in November 2002, and he
shipped out to Iraq in March 2003. Nate last resided in Phoenix,
