On 10/31/2006, two television news stations (NBC Channel 12 and CBS Kold
News 13) aired reports, and two newspaper articles were written and
published (10/31/2006 and 11/01/2006), in The Arizona Republic, related
to Efren's passing.
On 10/31/2006, CBS Kold News 13 aired a report by the Associated Press,
"Teen Gunned Down While Driving In West Phoenix" Phoenix police are
searching for clues in an early morning shooting that claimed the life
of a teenager, who was killed while driving home from work in west
Phoenix. The yellow Nissan 350-Z convertible driven by 18-year-old Efren
Gonzalez Herrera smashed into the block fence of a Maryvale home (near
63rd Avenue and College) after he was shot just before 3:30 a.m. Police
say they don't have any suspect information, although two dark-colored
vehicles were seen leaving the area.
On 10/31/2006, The Arizona Republic, "Man Driving Home From Work Killed"
by Judi Villa. An 18-year-old man was shot to death early this morning
while driving home from work. Efren Gonzalez Herrera was shot while
driving at 3:24 a.m., then crashed his Nissan 350Z convertible at 63rd
Avenue and College Drive, said Phoenix police Sgt. Andy Hill. Police
have not yet determined a motive for the shooting. No suspects were
immediately arrested, but police say there were two dark-colored
vehicles seen in the area at the time of the shooting. Anyone with
information is asked to call the Phoenix Police Department's Violent
Crimes Bureau at (602) 262-6141. The investigation is continuing.
On 11/01/2006, The Arizona Republic, "Suspects Sought In 3 Unrelated
Slayings"
by Michael Kiefer. Phoenix police continue to search for suspects in
three unrelated homicides that occurred Monday (10/30/2006) and Tuesday
(10/31/2006), all committed during early morning hours. *Excerpt related
to Efren: At 3:24 a.m., Efren Gonzalez Herrera, 18, was shot to death in
his car in the 4200 block of North 63rd Avenue, as he drove home from
work. Witnesses described a vehicle leaving the scene as either a
dark-colored Dodge pickup truck or sedan. |
